A Royal Pain – Rhys Bowen

5/5 Foreign Princesses

On The Back:

The Queen of England has concocted a plan in which Georgie is to entertain a Bavarian princess? and conveniently place her in the playboy Prince’s path, in the hopes that he might finally marry.
But queens never take money into account. Georgie has very little, which is why she moonlights as a maid-in-disguise. She must draw up plans: clean house to make it look like a palace; have Granddad and her neighbor pretend to be the domestic staff; un-teach Princess Hanni the English she’s culled from American gangster movies; cure said Princess of her embarrassing shoplifting habit; and keep an eye on her at parties. Then there’s the worrying matter of the body in the bookshop and Hanni’s unwitting involvement with the Communist Party. It’s enough to drive a girl crazy…

My Thoughts:

Sometimes I just read a book and sit back and just say wow. That was the case with this book. It was amazing and I finished it in less than a day.

I find Georgie absolutely hilarious and down-to-earth. Even though she was raised in nobility I love the fact that she has no problems with playing the part of a maid to survive, it’s great! The Princess Hanni was also absolutely hilarious in this book, with her gangster talk. I’d like to learn a bit more about Darcy, he is still surrounded with a lot of mystery, and I hope the next book explains more about him.

The mystery was excellent, a lot of murderous plot, and assassination attempts. There are actually four murders in this book, but the author ties them together wonderfully, I confess the mystery had me stumped, and et after it was revealed it made so much sense.

A very good book, I’m really looking forward to the next one!
